Schedule an Exam

1. Log into Canvas. Navigate to the course(s) for which you want to schedule an exam at the Accessible Educational Services (AES) Test Center. Select RegisterBlast in the side menu.

2. Once you click on the link from Canvas, you will be brought to the My Exams page. This page shows all the current exams assigned to you from the course you came from in Canvas. Click the link below the exam to begin registering for the exam.


• If you do not see the exam you are looking for, click the full exam list to schedule to view the full list of exams.

• If you still do not see your exam, please contact the AES Test Center at examaes@iu.edu.

3. Choose your accessibility measures.

If you have accessibility measures for testing approved by Accessible Educational Services (AES), you will see those listed here. Select the accessibility measures that you want to receive for this exam. 

NOTE: You will only see the accessibility measures for which you have been approved. If you do not want to use a particular accessibility measure, you are able to opt out by unselecting it from your list of approved accessibility measures unless it is a required accessibility measure.

4. Choose a date and time for your exam. The calendar will show in red the exam dates and times available for scheduling. If a date or time is not listed, it is not available. All testing must begin and end during AES business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding university holidays. Evening and weekend testing is not available. 

5. Your first name, last email, and email address will auto-populate in the "Who is taking this exam?" field. Review this information and make sure it is correct.

• Email examaes@iu.edu if this information is incorrect.

• Your official IU email address must be used for testing-related communications.

• Enter your telephone number.

• Acknowledge the affirmation at the end of the section by checking the box.
  Carefully read the Exam Guidelines Acknowledgement. Be sure to scroll through the entire acknowledgment and then check the box signifying that you agree to follow the guidelines provided. Then select Add to Cart.

6. There is no fee to schedule an exam at AES. Leave the Payment field blank and click Ready to Check Out. If you have completed all necessary steps, click Complete Registration to secure your exam appointment.

Upon the transaction processing successfully, you will receive an immediate email confirmation receipt from RegisterBlast. Please contact us at examaes@iu.edu if you do not receive an email confirmation of your booked exam appointment.

Before the exam

• Arrive at the AES office at least 10 minutes early when possible. If a student is late, they will not be given additional time to complete their exam. Depending on the instructor’s directions, it is possible that, if a student is late to their exam, they will not be allowed to take it at all.
• Prepare to show your Crimson Card to AES staff.
• Turn off all cell phones.
• All unallowed items, including cell phones (unless being used for authenticating into a Canvas exam or for medical monitoring), smart watches, coats, backpacks, purses, etc., must be left in AES lockers. Hats and pencil bags are not allowed in the exam room. Students may not retrieve anything after the proctor has given them the copy of the exam.
• Bathroom breaks are permitted with a proctor escort.

During the exam

• Students taking a Canvas exam must turn their cell phone in to a proctor after logging in.
• Any student who is found to have a cell phone, notes, or other unauthorized item in the exam room will have their exam or quiz confiscated immediately and will be asked to leave. AES staff will notify their instructor of the incident.
• Students are expected to be quiet and courteous, especially in consideration of other students in the exam room. Any student who is disruptive will be removed from the exam room, and their instructor will be notified.
• AES proctors will not give “time warnings.” Students must plan ahead and use either a basic watch or the wall clock to keep track of remaining exam time.
• Students must write their name on all exam papers and fill in their answer sheet (if applicable) during the time allotted for their exam. When exam time is up, students are allowed to finish the sentence they are writing, but no more than that.
• If a student needs to leave the exam room for a university-approved accessibility measure (accommodation), they need to notify the proctor quietly. Either the proctor or an AES staff member will escort the student to the restroom or provide other necessary supervision. The proctor will record the time the student leaves and the time they return. Students are not permitted to make up time used for this purpose unless their accessibility memo authorizes it. Students leaving their respective exam station without an escort will not be permitted to finish their exams.

After the exam

• When a student finishes the exam, they are free to leave. If an instructor has not specified otherwise to AES, taking any paper component of the assessment outside of the exam room is not permitted.

If a student misses a scheduled exam, AES staff will contact their instructor to let them know. It is up to the instructor to decide whether to allow the student to take a makeup exam. Students should contact their instructor immediately to discuss the situation.

Missed exams need to be rescheduled with sufficient notice to obtain a space and proctor. There is no guarantee that the exam will be rescheduled in AES space or within a certain time frame.

If a student is going to miss a scheduled exam for any reason, they need to contact AES staff as soon as possible. This helps AES staff to serve students by efficiently allocating limited testing space.

1. Log into your RegisterBlast account through your Canvas course page.  Click on Exams and then My History at the top right of the page.
2. Click on View complete history to see all exams you have currently scheduled. 
3. Click Reschedule or Cancel at the right side of the page. 
4. If you click Reschedule, select the Date and Time for your new appointment. Only available dates/times which meet the scheduling parameters of your instructor will be shown.
5. If you click Cancel, you will be asked to confirm whether you would like to cancel your exam appointment. Once you cancel, the action cannot be undone. If you have not met AES’s cancelation parameters, you will not be able to cancel. Click Keep current registration if you want to end the cancelation process.

You will not receive a confirmation email that your testing appointment has been cancelled. You may click on View History to verify the exams you currently have scheduled. Any appointments not listed have either been canceled or have not yet been scheduled.

AES schedules exams on a first-come, first-served basis. If AES is unable to administer an exam, the instructor and student will be notified immediately. It will then become the instructor’s responsibility to either offer an alternate date and time for the student to take the exam with AES or arrange accessibility measures (accommodations) through the course department.
